English is a fascinating and complex language, as rich and varied as the people all around the world who speak it. Grammatically, it may not be as complex or require as many conjugations as Catalan, French or Italian, but in terms of vocabulary it is unrivalled in the world. Why so many words? As is so often, the answer can be found in the history of the people who speak the language.
